Room 304 (5th Grade) - Ms. Ames

Welcome to Room 304 - Ms. Ames

Greetings to fifth grade.  My goal this year is to stimulate and challenge the students in preparation for middle school and to have fun along the way.  I work very closely with the other fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Duane.

Positive discipline and respect are the two main principles in which I conduct my classroom.  Classroom meetings will be held to give compliments, to help each other, to solve problems, and plan events.  I believe strongly in stressing the positive and have many reward systems.  I give Pride Cards for good behavior, being on task, students helping others, etc.  These will be used to buy different things from a class store.  Homework passes will be given out every two weeks.  Students that turn in all homework, on time, will be given a pass that will allow them to skip certain homework assignments.  On Fridays, for about 20 minutes, I will have Games Club.  Students that have all their work completed, both class work and homework, will participate while others complete their assignments.

Homework

There will be homework assigned Monday through Thursday, and on occasional weekends.  Homework is part of your child's class work!  All work is to be handed in on time, and it is the student's responsibility to make-up work when absent.

A weekly assignment sheet will come home nightly that your child has filled in with the homework assignments.  It is imperative that you check this sheet nightly and make sure your child has completed their homework.  In addition to their assigned homework, students will be required to read 30 minutes everyday, including weekends.

Parent Communication

It is important that we work as partners and communicate to guarantee a successful year.  Please feel free to call me at school if you have questions or concerns.  We can schedule a convenient time to meet if needed.  You may leave a message on my voicemail at 252-3432, or email me at paames@seattleschools.org, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.  However, if it concerns activities after school or absences please call the main office at 252-3400.
