Welcome to our class!
We are a group of fifth graders being led by Ms. Duane. We'll be working on many fun and interesting projects this year.
General curriculum notes:
We work in conjunction with the other fifth grade class to provide a variety of learning groups for reading. These groups are flexible and may change frequently. In our home classroom, we will work especially hard on writing, math, science, and social studies. We also hope to develop projects that teach advanced computer skills this year.
We concentrate on several overall themes during the year. One is the role of immigration in our country's development. We also spend a good bit of time learning about explorers and how our country began. This year we plan to get past the Revolutionary War and all the way to the Civil War.
EXPECTATIONS:
We expect every child to come to school with a three-ring binder, pencils (NO mechanical pencils, please!), paper, and a can-do attitude. We expect homework to be completed and turned in daily. We expect children to read a minimum of 30 minutes every day and record that on their reading calendars. We expect students will learn social survival skills so they can treat each other fairly and help each other learn.
